DIG DJ spot in Cardiff 18th Dec!!!!
Friday, 18 December 2009 at 20:00-03:00
Cardiff Arts Institute
The lovely people at DIG! have kindly invited me to spin at their night (thanks guys), in their own words......
"Friday the 18th of December is Black Friday, this means many people in smart shirts and shiny tops getting hideously pissed in town, congregating in the middle of St Mary street, getting naked and forming a giant sticky ball of bad sex that rolls around town like a huge snow ball collecting passers by and eventually turning into a super perverted flesh coloured snowman.
If you don't want to become part of that gooey freak show then you'd better come and hide in the CAI next Friday and enjoy the DIG festive freakout.
Live music will be supplied by Y Niwl, featuring members of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Cate Le Bon and fronted by Llanrwst guitar hero Alun Tan Lan, they play loud and they play fast and they don't stop until everyone's dancing.
If you don't believe me watch this...
Record discs will be spun by the DIG DJ's and world famous artist, SFA sleeve designer and bespectacled Frankenstein Mr Pete Fowler. Pete brings with him a mentasmic bag of brain wobbling beats, foot tapping fuzz and child ensnaring eargasmic wonder wax. He played at the MBV ATP weekend recently and apparently it "went off big style".
And that's that really, unless you're some kind of disgusting weirdo who wants to become part of a naked human 3D jigsaw puzzle we'll see you next Friday.
Merry Chirstmas.

SWS002 NOW AVAILABLE!
Space Weather Sounds illusion ship LP now available.
The Space Weather Sounds label was set up by Pete Fowler and Jon Tye at the start of 2009 to receive and transmit deep space sounds and vibrations.
Their first outing, as Monsters at Work was the soundtrack to a Zombie movie they've still yet to see (SWS001 edition of 40 C60 cassettes). A severely psychotic sound scape described by Jonny Trunk in Record Collector as 'the oddest release of the month...sounds like a forklift truck in a large aeroplane factory'.
The second release 'illusion ship' is a set of four extended pieces culled from rehearsals and a live performance at this years Big Chill festival. Hailed by one of the few brave enough to withstand the 90 minute sonic onslaught as ' like Whitehouse meets early Tangerine Dream'. 'illusion ship' comes in a soft poly case with hand made and numbered full colour labels and artwork. Available as a limited edition of 50 C60 cassettes.
A super limited edition version with full colour poster will be available soon from SWS, more news on ETA to follow...
SWS002 IS AVAILABLE DIRECTLY FROM US!
The cassette is £5.00 + P&P and can be ordered directly from SWS. Please email spaceweathersounds@googlemail.com for order enquiries (see below for P+P charges). We accept paypal and cash hidden in envelopes (for UK free postage!).
P+P is-
UK First Class £1.62
Europe £1.82
USA and rest of world £2.94

Space Weather Sounds forthcoming LP
About halfway through the production of our next release 'illusion ship' (SWS002) by Space Weather Sounds.
A 4 track LP with side A recorded during rehearsals/jams at Maker studio, and side B live at Eastnor. Again this is a cassette only release but this time on dead stock super tropical green tape, limited to 50 copies. We've taken both the music and the artwork a step further on this one adding full colour artwork, labels and sleeve notes picked up from the ether. There maybe some very limited CD promos floating around at some point soon so watch this space weather sounds...

MAW Present WIzards At Work
Join Captain Jon Tye and myself Pete Fowler as we take the wheel again at the Big Chill Bar this coming Wednesday the 11th of November for another forage into sounds we dig.
No guest this month but we attempt to evoke the spirit of Todd Rundgren over the night with a bit of a mini tribute. No, he's far from dead, we know that! But in anticipation of him performing A Wizard A True LP star next February in London we will indulge you in a smattering of his tunes.
A true original gonzo / powerpop / balladeering / synth and axe wielding chap, we salute him, his studio madness and an ear for a fine tune.
Lots of people seem to be digging his stuff at the moment and we think it's time to give him props.
Todd's 'International Feel' used on Daft Punk's movie Electroma (excuse the lousy sound)
Hope to see you there.

Finished Billboard!
After baking in the sun for a day and a half I can reveal the finished Psychedelic Yacht Rock billboard. A tribute to those sailing the stormy cosmic seas in search of skyships. The piece is situated next to the red London routemaster in the Truman Brewery carpark and is on display for around 6 weeks. There's a beach 'style' bar next to it so why not have a Pina Colada next to it and whistle some Rupert Holmes.

Big shout out to Bobcat, Captain Tye, Mr Blackwell and Dan Joyce for taking the ship's wheel when needed! Dan has put together a trailer of the film he's making of the fest at the moment, here it is below.
If anyone knows where to get in touch with James and Harry (from the car thursday night) please get in touch! They have a bright future ahead of them if they made it to the end of the fest!

Big Chillage
Bit of a last minute post as the festival starts tomorrow but just before I pack my bags to go to the Big Chill I thought I'd post up what;s going down for anyone attending the fest...
MAW SOUNDTRACK ZOMBIE MOVIE!
Two of the crew from MAW have recently recorded a 30 minute soundtrack to a yet to be made zombie movie (I know, it's a strange concept but we dig it) filmed and shown on loop at this coming weekend's Big Chill festival. The soundtrack will be played from one of 6 wrecked cars at the Dereliction Drive-In and MAW will be getting their hands dirty painting said car pre festival and potentially turning into the undead themselves on thursday night...
MAW LIVE!
Another slice of the MAW Big Chill adventure will presented, on a wooden board, on saturday where MAW will perform a rare live set. Using stripped down equipment and duelling Suffolk synths, picking up transmissions from the ether and fried field tape recordings we expect some deep drones, space echo'ed lines, arpeggiatedelayathons and horses eating. (time TBC)
MAW PRESENT COSMIC JAMBOREE!
The final slice of the Big Chill steak and MAW pie, go on, just one more piece, it's delicious...is the Cosmic Jamboree. MAW will host a sunday afternoon, playing psyche, Hypnogogic wall prog, exotica, discoid, yacht rock, electronik and boogie together with live sets from Laura J Martin & The Simon Sound. We will also be distributing MAW masks over the afternoon which are absolutely free, baby. And we're notstopping there, badges and stickers will be available too, no free jelly though this time:(

New Pictures On Walls screenprints available now
It's been a long time since I've created any new prints for Pictures On Walls but finally we have come up with the goods in the form of 2 prints entitled Gwyn and Gwynneth. Available singularly or as a pair and also in a second colourway, these prints are quite limited and are completely hand designed. The original art was drawn in pencil with the colour separations also done by hand and we've used recycled straw paper for the stock. I think they look sweet, psyche and rural! Following on from the lino cuts I've been producing, these are most definately undigital! They are probably my favourite prints so far and reflect the stuff that fills my sketchbook. I hope you like them! I have more new prints planned with POW which will hopefully unfold over the coming months.
Thanks to the guys at POW, Chip and Sam for making these happen.

Just came across this crazy public access TV show from Chicago called Chic-A-Go-Go. It's described as a kids dance show for all ages and has featured some pretty amazing bands and whacked out dancing! Here's a taste from their youtube channel.

Super Furry Animals Warehouse Party II
Saturday July 18th 2009
10 pm – 6 am
Tickets £10 advance
Corsica Studios 5 Elephant Road London SE17 1LB
Tel: 020 7703 4760
Info@corsicastudios.com
www.corsicastudios.com
Already notorious for their end of gig techno finales and for throwing festival after-show raves from on top of their tank, Super Furry Animals continue this tradition in fine style as they once more take over Corsica Studios for the mother of all after-show parties.
After the sell-out success of the last SFA after party following their Roundhouse shows in Nov 2007, the Furries have decided to return to Corsica and throw another all night warehouse bash. Straight after their Somerset House show on July 18th they’ll be hot-footing it over the river with a host of their favourite DJs in tow.

I've just contributed a painting to a group show at Stolenspace gallery in London this thursday 2nd July. Here's a picture of the piece ahead of the show, someone told me today it's psycho-sexual..It's just a drawing of a cosmic cave.
The colours are WAY of on this picture by the way, darn day glo paint!

Psychedelic Jamboree Part 3
Greetings to you all and a cool flap of air to those about to melt!
We are proud this month to have DJ Cherrystones join Jon ( as I'm
away on my cosmic holiday) next wednesday the 8th at the Big Chill Bar off Brick Lane.
Renowned for his impeccable compilations (Cherrystones Rocks and Cherrystones Word) and much sought after dj gigs as well as producing his own music under the Godsy moniker on NYC's Whateverwewantrecords label, Cherrystones casts a wide net yet fine filter on his selections from 50's trash, kosmiche, psych, glam, electronic, prog, electronic to the further limits of music and beyond.

I feel this is me, me, me but it is my blog! The nice people at HOT 110 came to my studio and did a wee interview. I like the bit where I'm making tea, that's real tea not TV tea by the way.
Cheers!

My music's on telly!
More 4 have been using my Barred Growl/Chocolate Skull track on their promo for tonight's True Stories documentary.
Well worth a watch if you're turned on by the Fortean, mysterious or things falling from the skies...

True Stories: Close Encounters in Siberia
In 1908, a huge explosion shook a remote region of Siberia, with the epicentre of the phenomenon occuring near the Tunguska river. However, all that was found on investigating the area was 80 million uprooted trees lying in neat rows. 100 years later, filmmaker George Carey headed for the remote region, where he joined communities of mystics, amateur sleuths and scientists dedicated to solving the mystery surrounding the event.

Cosmic Overlord
Giorgio Moroder...what a don. I've watched this clip endlessly, now it's your turn. Lovely close up of his synth patches and what debonair style he's rocking! Turn this up and oscillate...awesome.

Psychedelic Jamboree returns!
Quick heads up on our next Psychedelic Jamboree night at the Big Chill Bar off Brick Lane on June 10th. We are happy to announce that our very special guest DJ for the night is none other than Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals. Expect Turk Psyche sevens and obscure spaced out international AND domestic treats. Also confirmed for our August 12th night is the lovely Fred Deakin of Lemon Jelly and Airside fame who put out one of the best compilation/mix CD's last year called Nu Balearica. This CD has had some heavy rotation at Monsterism Towers so expect some galaxial discoid and what ever else he decides to bless us with!
The July 8th guest has yet to be confirmed but we'll let you know as soon as we get that nailed.

AMAZING MUSIC!
Sublime Frequencies are putting a tour together with Omar Souleyman and Group Doueh.
Omar's strictly Syrian wedding bangers and Group Doueh blow up psychedelic flanged out desert blues. Amazing music that wipes the floor with most anything I've heard recently.
They've reissued some of their LP's and CD's too. Investigate!
Uh, actually noticed that the tour is underway already and London is sold out...I bet the Miss PeaPods gig was awesome...
Anyway, buy their music!
